KC-EU held a protest against the ongoing curfew in Kashmir

The Kashmir Council-EU held a protest against the ongoing curfew imposed by Indian authorities in Kashmir, in front of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

The Chairman of the Kashmir Counci-EU, Ali Raza Syed said, it’s been more than three months since the curfew had been imposed in Kashmir but the International Community remains silent on the matter.

No peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue can be envisaged while grave human rights abuses continue. Against this background, the European Union cannot continue with its present policy of passive inaction.

The situation in Kashmir, like other areas of tension in the world, calls for intense diplomatic work, based on international law and respect for human rights.

The European Union as an independent political actor, with autonomy, can dialogue on an equal footing on human rights, multilateral governance, trade and technology with the largest countries, including India.

Ali Raza Syed, further added “If the pressure is to be successfully brought on the Indian government to change its stance on Kashmir, we believe that the widest possible debate on the situation is now essential.”
